James was born in 1845 to James and an unknown mother. He married an unknwn person and was widowed. (see marriage license) He married Elizabeth Jarrett in 1871. She had 2 daughters prior to marriage. James was a coal miner. He was killed in the terrible explosion on 14 Apr 1874.

Marriage between John and Elizabeth is Feb 1872. In the 1871 census she is listed as wife but the two children are listed as step-daughters. Sarah is 2 years old and Eliza is 4 months. Need to clarify...
