Anne Elizabeth Hallard was born in 1861 at Aston, Warwickshire, the daughter of Jonathan Hallard and Martha Hallard nee Burgess. [1]
Anne's first name has been written below as recorded at the time. Variations included Ann and Annie.
In the 1861 census Ann was living with her parents at 15 Garrison Tce, Aston. She was only aged 1 month. [2]
In 1871 Annie, aged 10, was living with her mother, then a widow, at the same address. [3]
Annie was still living with her mother at this address in 1881. Aged 20, she was working as a raiser at the steel pen works. [4]
By 1891 the family [Martha, George, Annie and Ada Hallard and Percy Sanbrook] had moved to 259 Watery Lane, Aston. Aged 30, Annie was still employed as a steel pen maker. [5]
By 1901 Annie had moved to live with her sister Thirza Hallard at Llanwarne Stores, Ross, Herefordshire. Aged 38, Annie was employed as an assistant grocer. [6]
In 1911 Annie was living with her sister and brother in law Georgina and Henry Sanbrook at Poston Mills, Vowchurch, Herefordshire. Aged 48, she was stated as having private means. [7]
Annie Hallard sailed with Henry, Georgina and Frederick Sanbrook aboard the Corsican, leaving Liverpool on 4 April 1913 bound for Canada. She was then described as a domestic aged 42 years [age probably lowered to make her more acceptable for immigration]. [8]
Annie E Hallard died on 22 September 1925 and was buried on 25 September 1925 at Edmonton Municipal Cemetery, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada [Section OH Block 0054 Plot 0011]. [9]

Of interest -
By the 1850s Birmingham was the centre for steel pen and steel nib manufacture, more than half the steel nib pens manufactured in the world were Birmingham made. Thousands of skilled craftsmen and women were employed in the industry. Many new manufacturing techniques were perfected in Birmingham enabling the city's factories to mass produce their pens cheaply, and efficiently.
