Biography

Sarah Ann Hallas was born in Mirfield Yorkshire and baptised there on 13 Sep 1829, the daughter of Marmaduke Hallas and his wife Rose Ann. ^[1]

In 1841, she was still living at home with her parents in Lee Gree, Mirfield, Yorkshire. Marmaduke her father was age 50, an ag lab, her mother Rose age 45, a confectioner, Sarah was age 11, and her younger sister Rose was age 5. ^[2]

Sarah married William Dyson in Mirfield on 25th December 1849. She gave her fathers name as Marmaduke, and her age as 21. William was also age 21, the son of Joseph Dyson. ^[3]

Sarah and William, a waterman, were living in Lee Green, Mirfield at the time of the 1851 census, together with their daughter Emmela who was 3 weeks old, and Sarah's sister Rose Ann Hallas, age 15. Living next door were Sarah's parents and sister Sofiah ^[4]
