Biography

Obituary Text: THORA FLORENCE (FLO) DELL (nee HALLDORSON) August 27, 1928 - May 10, 2017 It breaks our hearts to announce the passing of Flo Dell at the St. Boniface Hospital, following a brief fight with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. Flo was predeceased by her husband Frank, daughter Sandra, parents Thor and Dina Halldorson and sisters Kathleen Sichkar and Elaine Richards. Flo's memory will be cherished by her children, Lorne (Wanda), Michael, Blaine and Susan (Richard), her grandchildren, David, Andrea, Denise, Graham, Jeremy, Jennifer, Sara, Michael, Tyler and Carissa, 11 great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Flo was born in Lundar and was raised on a farm in Oak Point, Manitoba until moving to Winnipeg at age 17. Flo met Frank at the Normandy Dance Hall and they married in 1949. They loved each other so much and proved it in their 62 years of marriage. They raised their children on Martin Avenue East, in Elmwood, where Flo continued to live following Franks passing in 2010. She had a way of making all feel welcome in her home. Flo loved music and played the piano, sang and danced throughout her life. Good times were had at the trailer on Willow Island and later she enjoyed making memories at their humble cottage in Gimli Manitoba, with her grandchildren. Flo worked in the same building for 25 years on Nairn Avenue which started as Clark's, then Gambles and finally Zellers. She made many long lasting friendships and gave motherly advice to staff over the years. Many would remember her as the smiling face at the service desk. Flo was an amazing woman who always put others before herself. All who knew her, loved her. She had a beautiful smile, kind heart and loved her family and friends deeply. A mother's love is unconditional. She truly is a role model for us all. A special thank you to Sam Leighton (aka Karen Dell) for her love and support to her Auntie Flo and being here for the family during this hard time. Thank you to all the staff on 6E at the St.Boniface Hospital, for their compassion and support during her two week stay. In keeping with Flo's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Highway. In lieu of flowers, love your family. www.voyagefuneralhome.com As published in Winnipeg Free Press on May 13, 2017
