Richard /Hallett/[1]
Richard Hallett was baptized on 9 Jun 1588 in Marshwood, Dorsetshire, England. [citation needed] He married Agnes Alford on 10 Apr 1610 in South Perrott, Dorsetshire. The parish register: 10 April 1610 Richardus Hallett of Bridport Agnetum Alford at South Perrott, Dorset, England. [2]
Richard and Agnes had a son William, our ancestor.
South Perrott is still an attractive village consisting of streams, small bridges and lots of 17th and 18th century stone cottages.
Anya Seton quotes a Dorchester legend about the Steward of the Earl of Bristol accusing Richard of stealing the Earl's stallion. Richard was hung in the marketplace that night. When the horse was found later, it was clear that Richard had not stolen it. The Earl then dismissed his steward and tried to make amends by taking Richard's son in.
The Earl’s name was John Digby. He lived from 1580 to1653. He was an English diplomat and a moderate royalist during the English Civil War. He purchased Sherborne Castle in Dorset from King James in 1617. The Tudor mansion stood on a 15,000-acre estate.
If the legend is true, Richard died in 1628 in Sherborne. However, others say Richard was living in 1671.

Some reseachers record the name of Agnes as Agnetam but the Latin nominative form would be Agneta.
