Biography

Edmond Halley was born to a wealthy family from London. His father, Edmond Sr was a highly successful soap merchant. Edmond Jr is best known as the English astronomer that discovered & determined the orbit of the comet now known as comet Halley. Beside being an astronomer he was also a physicist, mathematician, geophysicist & meteorologist.

Halley was a very bright man. He graduated from Oxford University & was the second person named an Astronomer Royal. The list of his accomplishments is long, ranging from his sunspot studies to the anatomy of the Earth to the principles of underwater pressure.

He first observed the Comet that now bears his name.
