Biography

William was born about 1879. He passed away in 1918.

Marriage (1902)

RED, WHITE, AND BLUE WEDDING.
The marriage of Miss Florence Filby, youngest daughter of Mr. William Filby, of Wantz-road, Maldon, with Sergt. William Gass Halliday, of the 3rd Dragoon Guards, stationed at Curragh, Ireland, took place on Wednesday at All Saints’ Church, Maldon. The bride was attired in a handsome dress of white silk, trimmed with Maltese lace. She wore a tulle veil and carried a shower bouquet, the gift of the bridegroom. She was attended by six bridesmaids, the Misses Charity Filby, her sister; Jeanne Halliday, sister of the bridegroom; Alice Coult, cousin of the bride; Nellie Gallaher, and two daughters of Mr. R. S. Turner, of Market-hill. The bridesmaids, who also carried bouquets, the gifts of the bridegroom, were dressed in pale blue cashmere trimmed with Maltese lace, and wore black picture hats. They also wore gold necklet chains and brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. The marriage ceremony, which was choral, was performed by the Rev. A. R. Wilson. The Navy was represented by Mr. Frank Filby, brother of the bride, Mr. Bert Halliday, brother of the bridegroom, and two friends, all in uniform. Mr. Frank Powell, of London, officiated at the organ. A reception was afterwards held at No. 64 Wantz-road, the bride’s home. The newly-married couple left during the evening for Worksop, where the honeymoon will be spent. The presents were numerous.[1]
