Lovina (Lavina in census records) was born in Eastport, Maine, on December 14, 1806 according to her grave stone inscription.

She was the daughter of Joseph Hallowell and Nancy Jones. She was the half-sister of Deborah Cox by Nancy's first marriage to James Cox. In 1830 or 1831 Lovina married John Cox of Edmunds. According to old maps of Washington County, Maine, John Cox lived on Shore Road in Edmunds. His son Edward Carter Cox also lived at that location overlooking Denys River and Whiting Bay and across the street from Lower Edmunds Cemetery (aka South Edmunds Cemetery). Descendants still live on the property.
John and Lovina had 8 children: Levi Hallowell Cox, Eliphalet Reynolds Cox, Nathaniel Cox, Elizabeth Ann Cox, Susan Maria Cox, Lemuel Cox, Edward Carter Cox, and Dorcas R. Cox.

Lovina passed away in 1895, Her death record and her grave stone inscription agree on her date of death as October 10, 1895.

Lovina and husband John are buried in Lower Edmunds Cemetery (aka South Edmunds Cemetery).
