Biography

Caroline arrived on 20 Aug 1831 in Alexandria, Virgina. On 23 Sep 1852 she married Francis Miller at the Alexandria Friends Meeting House in Alexandria.<60> The marriage produced six children: James Hallowell (1853), Henry Hallowell (1856), Warwick Guion (1858), George Brooke (1861), Margaret Elgar (1862), and Guyon (1864). James and Warwick died young. Caroline was very active in the regional and nation movements for women’s equality and the right to vote. She formed Quaker groups that pushed for these rights until her passing in 1905. She also recorded the auto biography of her father Benjamin Hallowell. The life and activities of husband Francis Miller have already been given above. Caroline passed away at Sandy Spring 02 Sep 1905 and Francis also there on 02 Feb 1888. Both are buried at the Sandy Spring Meeting House.<61>
