Caleb was a freeholder at Elizabeth in 1755. [3]

The Halstead children were: Robert, William, Sarah, Caleb, John and Elihu (twins), Phoebe, Matthias, Ann, Polly, Jacob, Jonathan. [4]

Birth: 7-8-1721 Hempstead, Queens, New York; Death: 6-4-1784 Elizabethtown, Essex, New Jersey. His spouse: Rebecca Ogden. Children in file: Caleb Jr who m. Abigail Lyon; Sarah who m. Samuel Smith; Ann who m. Joseph Camp; Jonathan who m. Isabella Neil; John who m. Phebe Wade; Mary who m. John Reading Mills; William who m. Phebe Meeker. [5]

Caleb was taken prisoner from his own home "Halstead point" 18 Jun 1778, his home was plundered by the Tories. [6]

Will & Estate

Caleb Halstead of Elizabethtown (Hempstead, LI (Nassau) will 29 May 1784 real and personal estate to be sold, to wife Rebecca 400 pounds, a gray horse and a riding chair, best bed and furniture, then to daughter Sarah Smith 100 pounds, to other daughters Phebe, Nancy and Mary 200 pounds each, Mary to have the Negro girl Phyllis, sons to also have lumps sums of money 100-300 pounds each, the money to be raised from sale of his real estate, Wit Jasper Smith, Thomas Harwood, and Jacob DeHart Jr. Lib 26 p 463. [7]

Burial

First Presbyterian Churchyard, Elizabethtown, NJ: 1953 "IN MEMORY OF Mr Caleb Halsted who departed this Life June ye 4th Anno Domini 1784 and in the 64th year of his Age. "[8]
