Josephine Maria Halverson was born on November 21, 1870, to Ole Halverson and Anne Torkelsdatter Halverson of Minnesota.[1][2] She was baptized on January 22, 1871, in the North Waseca Lutheran Church in Waseca County, Minnesota.[1] Josephine was named for her parents' firstborn daughter Josephine who had passed away on August 27, 1870, just months before her own birth.[3]
On May 1, 1875, Josephine was four years old and living with her parents and three siblings on the family farm in Waseca County, Minnesota.[4]
On June 29, 1880, Josephine was nine years old and living with her parents and three siblings on their new family farm in Moody County, Dakota Territory.[5] The family had travelled to their new land in Dakota Territory from Minnesota by covered wagon[6] in 1879.[7]
On April 30, 1910, Josephine was 39 years old and living with her parents on Bridge Street in Flandreau, South Dakota.[8]
On January 8, 1920, Josephine (49) was living in a home she owned free and clear on Prospect Avenue in Flandreau, South Dakota.[9]
In 1925, Josephine was 54 years old, single and living in South Dakota.[10]
On April 12, 1930, Josephine was 59 years old, living at 103 Bridge Street, Flandreau, South Dakota, and working as a housekeeper.[11]
On April 10, 1940, Josephine was 69 years old, single and living at 109 N. Central Street, Flandreau, South Dakota.[12] She stated that she had also lived at that location in 1935.[12]
Josephine passed away on April 13, 1951, in Moody County, South Dakota.[2][6] She is buried in Union Cemetery, Flandreau, Moody County, South Dakota, USA.[2]
