Henry Hamel was born on March 28 1869 at Armidale, New South Wales, Australia [1], the son of Heinrich and Frederika (Baumgartner) Hamel. His siblings were Mary (Hamel) Grills, Anne (Hamel) Lyons, Lousia (Hamel) Ferris, John [elder] Hamel (1873-1874), John [younger] (Jack) Hamel, George Hamel, Elizabeth Lydia (Hamel) Somerville, Charles Hamel [elder] (1881-1883), Thomas Hamel, Isabella (Hamel) Pietsche and Charles Hamel [younger].
He married Alice Sarah Frazier on 14 September 1892 at Armidale, New South Wales, Australia[2] and they had five sons and four daughters.
Henry died on 6 August 1939 at Inverell, New South Wales, Australia [3] and was buried in the Methodist section of the Inverell Cemetery, Inverell, New South Wales, Australia.
[4]"MR. HENRY HAMEL. As briefly reported In a recent issue, the death occurred on August 5, in the District Hospital, of a highly-respected resident of the district, in the person of Mr. Henry Hamel, aged 70 years. Deceased had been ailing for some time.
The late Mr. Hamel was born at Saumarez Ponds, near Armidale, in 1869. His first venture was to take up a selection at Stony Batter, in the Bundarra district, where he resided for a number of years
Disposing of his property there, he purchased Windorah, near Bukkulla, in the Inverell district. That was 36 years ago, and the late Mr. Hamel resided there ever since, being in partnership with the late Mr. C. T. Grills. He was also part owner of "Kelso," near Bonshaw. The deceased gentleman was of a retiring disposition, though he made many friends, who regret his demise.
His wife predeceased him in 1926. He is survived by four sons and four daughters. The names of the sons are Norman Reginald (Sevington), Raymond Lester (Maiden Head), Clarence Ryland and Algie Henry (Bukkulla). The daughters are Mesdames Claude Edmonds (Wollomombi), Herb. Ratliff (Emmaville), Ossie Phillips (Ashford), and Miss Lily (Windorah). Three sons predeceased their father. The late Mr. Hamel is also survived by four brothers and four sisters, namely, John (Armidale), George (Walcha), Charles (Glen Innes), Thomas (Sydney), Mrs. Grills, senr. (Glenorchy), Mrs. Pietsch (Nullamanna), Mrs. Somerville (Glen Innes), and Mrs. Ferris (Armidale). The interment was made in the Methodist portion of the local cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended. Rev. C. Moore officiated at the church and at the graveside. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of the firm of C. S. Thorley.
