James Hamerton was born about 1431 in Yorkshire, England, son of Lawrence Hamerton (~1380–>1440) and Isabel Tempest (~1419– ).
James married Katherine, daughter and heiress of Thomas Box of Monkrode, Yorkshire.[1] They had issue.
