John was born in 1860. He is the son of James Hamerton and Rebecca Groves.
John Groves Hamerton married Rebecca Frances Innocent in 1885.[1] Rebecca and John are first cousins once removed.
John Groves Hamerton worked as a miller, but wound the business down after the death of his first wife.[2]
He served 3 years in prison for forgery in 1904, and on release settled in Manchester as a metal manufacturer.[4]
He dissolved his partnership in Confectioners supplies in 1907.[5]
He dissolved his business "Lion Cord Company" of Manchester in 1909.[6]
In 1912 he was convicted of fraud and served 18 months.[7]
