Clara Belle Hamiton was born February 26, 1864 in Raymond, Illinois to William Hamilton and Mary Barton Hamilton. In 1870, 6-year-old Clarabel lived with her parents and 2 little sisters, Rose and Jane in Butler, Montgomery, Illinois. Her 35 year old father farms[1]. In 1880 the family lived in Harvel Township, Montgomery, Illinois. Clara and Rose were there with their parents but sister Jane is not. She would have been 10 years old so she has probably passed away. Added to the family is William R., age 7, Sarah, age 4 and John P., age 2. Dad, William still farms[2].
Clara Belle married Theodore Hemphill August 6, 1886 in Montgomery, Illinois[3] and they had 9 children together, one child dying in infancy. In the 1900 census the whole Hemphill family is together except for one child, Theodore, who was born and died in 1899. The family consists of Theodore and Clara Belle and their children, Bessie M, Anna B, Willis R, William F, Allice, Francis R, and Albert. They live next door to Theodore's dad, William and some of Theodore's siblings, Rosa (Rose), Sarah, James A, and Albert[4].
Clara Belle died May 18, 1906 in Belleville, Kansas. She was 41 years old[5].
