Catherine Hamilton was baptised 9 February 1725/6 at the church of St Andrew, Holborn, City of London, as “Catherin ye Da. of John Hamilton Esq. & Jane (of) Chancery Lane”.[1]
She married Anthony Abdy son of Sir William Abdy 4th Baronet Abdy of Chobham Place and his wife, Mary Stotherd on 13 August 1747 [2] in St Paul's Cathedral. [3] No children were born of the marriage. On 18 January 1750 Sir William died and Catherine's husband became the 5th Baronet. [4]
Her will, as Katherine Abdy of Sackville street, Piccadilly, Westminster, was dated 10 September 1787 and proved at London 24 October 1792. She requested to be buried at Chobham, Surrey, near to her late husband Sir Anthony Thomas Abdy Bt, and left legacies to her nieces Elizabeth Lady Yates, Mrs Mary Forbes (wife of George Forbes Esq), Miss Ann Clarke and Mrs Jane Walker (wife of Thomas Walker Esq, accountant-general); goddaughters Miss Katherine Mary Abdy (daughter of Sir William Abdy Bt), Miss Charlotte Yates and Miss Jane Walker; and to Sir William Abdy Bt and Mrs Harriott Abdy (wife of late Rev Stotherd Abdy), among others.[5]
Although secondary sources say her father was William Hamilton of Chancery Lane, she is named as daughter in the will of John Hamilton of that place (whose uncle was called William).[6]
