Biography

Henry Jordan Hamilton was born about 1804 in Tennessee. It is presently unknown who his parents were. Henry's first born son was James Henry Hamilton was born 20 May 1840 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. 9 Jun 1842 Joseph Thomas Hamilton was born. He lived until 30 Sep 1843 when he passed away. William Houston Hamilton was born 9 Jun 1844 in Missouri, Andrew Jackson Hamilton was born 4 Nov 1846 in Arkansas. Sarah Elizabeth Hamilton was born in 1848 in Arkansas. In 1850 Henry is found in Ozan, Hempstead County, Arkansas. He is living with his wife, Dorcas (Cox) Hamilton and their four children; James H., 10 years old; William, 6 years old; Andrew J., 4 years old and Sarah E., 1 year old. Henry's Uncle William T. Hamilton is 55 years old and living with them.[1] In 1860 Henry is 55 years old and his wife Dorcas is 45 years old.[2] They are still living in the same location. Isaac Newton and Elizabeth (R. (Gabbert) Gryder are listed on the same page with their children. Much later Mary E. Gryder will marry James Henry Hamilton.[3] The children still at home are (James) Henry Hamilton, 20 years old; William H. Hamilton, 16 years old; Sarah E. Hamilton, 12 years old, Mary J. Hamilton, 11 years old, born in 1851; Dorca A. Hamilton, 7 years old, born in 1853; and John Q. Hamilton, 4 years old, born 18 May 1856 in Washington, Hempstead County, Arkansas. Henry's Uncle, William (T.) Hamilton is now 64 years old and still living with them. John Quintus Hamilton was born 18 May 1856. Martha Adeline Hamilton was born 4 Mar 1860. In 1869 Henry Jordan Hamilton passed away in Hempstead County, Arkansas. Dorcas (Cox) Hamilton passed away in 1874 and is assumed to have been buried near her husband.
