James Hamilton of Innerwick in Haddingtonshire had a precept of Clare Constat from Matthew, Earl of Lennox, as son and heir to Hugh, his father, dated 2nd November 1512.
James Hamilton of Innerwick and Helen Home his spouse had a charter dated 18th August 1531 of the lands of Braidwood, which lie in Lauderdale but are part of the Regality of Renfrewshire by annexation (as with nearby Whitslaid). He appears as still living in the resignation charter of the lands & barony of Ballencrieff, Bathgate, &c., to his son and heir on 20th August 1538.
On the 4th January 1542/43 he had the gift of the non-entries of the estates of Robert Lauder of that Ilk, his sister's stepson, until the entry fees were forthcoming.[1]
