Sources

  • I am going to assume that Patrick Miller Sr. had a son named Mathew Miller b- Abt. 1650, and he is the Mathew Miller (with several sources noted) in the FamilySearch.org family tree link below which gives the names/birth years/etc. of Mathew and Agnes Guthrie’s children (at least the 1st child listed born (John Miller b-1670) with no sources noted is likely in error given Mathew would have been 15 when John was noted as born). This Mathew Miller is noted to have also had a son named Patrick Miller (named after Mathew's father?); however no sources are noted for the child Patrick Miller in the family tree. The Clan MacFarlane Genealogy site notes this Mathew Miller as born in 1655; however Mathew would have only been about 17 years old when his 1st DOCUMENTED child was born (Mary Miller b- 12/26/1672) if Mathew was born in 1655. So I feel the birth year (1650) noted in the family tree below is a better birth year for Mathew Miller (he would have been 22 when his 1st documented child was born). Also if Mathew was born in 1650, it makes more sense that he may have been Patrick Miller, Sr.’s son given Patrick Miller, Sr. is 1st documented in Middlesex Co., VA in 1653 in a land patent. One item that is not explained is why Patrick Miller, Sr. would not have brought Mathew Miller to Virginia with him. This MAYBE explained if Patrick Miller, Sr. had a 1st wife just prior to marrying Margaret Hardy on 6/18/1650 who had died and their assumed child (Mathew Miller) stayed in Scotland and was raised by relatives/others. Mathew could also have been left in Scotland with family given he likely would have been too young to survive the long sea voyage One family tree I found noted a John Miller as Mathew Miller’s father; however no sources were noted. So this assumption that Mathew Miller (grandfather of Patrick Miller, of Dalswinton 1731-1815), was the son of my Patrick Miller, Sr. is by no means certain. I am listing this relationship as UNCERTAIN on WikiTree.com.
