Biography

Francis was born about 1767. He was the son of Nicholas Hamilton and Christian Baillie.

Francis was an Attorney at law and for a time and for some time Under Sherriff of the Queen's County, Ireland. He lived at Portarlington in that county, and afterwards in Dublin, where he died of Cholera in 1832.

He married

1. 20 Oct 1796 - Ann Cary, daughter of Henry Cary Esq. of Portarlington and Ann Gore, 3rd daughter of Annsley Gore Esq., of Beleek, Co Mayo. [1]

  1. Gustavus married 1. Mary Bolger, 2. Catherine Forsyth
  2. Harriett who married George Turpin, Esq.
  3. Anne who married John Egan
  4. Catherine b. abt 1800 married George Strong, Esq

Ann died 15 August 1806.

2. Sarah Hamilton, daughter of Benedict Hamilton of Carlow. LL.D, B.D. He married in 1812 [2]

  2. Benedict b. 1814
  3. James settled in Philadelphia and died there
  4. William Cranston b. 1817
  5. Olivia Anna b. 1821 married 1. James Thomas turner, 2. Henry Bolton
  6. Henry Forster b. 1823 married Eliza Ann Freeman
  7. Charles Frederick b. 1825 married Mary Garvey

He passed away in 1832 of cholera. He resided at Russell Place, Dublin and is buried in the Parish of St George, Dublin. [3]

DIED - On the 11th instant, of cholera, Francis William Hamilton, of Russell

Place, County Dublin, Attorney.

After his death members of his family emigrated to the USA.
