Frederick Gustavus Hamilton was born on 4th February 1856 at Dublin, Ireland. He was a son of Gustavus Hamilton, hotelier, and Emily Alday.
The family migrated to the Colony of Queensland.
After graduating from the University of Queensland with a law degree, Frederick became a barrister.[1]
He married Ella Muriel Markwell, 29 years his junior, on 11th December 1907 in All Saints Church of England (Anglican Church), Wickham Terrace, Brisbane, Queensland.[2]

He was a Solicitor and afterwards (4 Sept., 1900) a Barrister in Queensland ; Crown Prosecutor North Queensland.
In 1920 he resided at Townsville, Queensland.
He passed away on 17th January 1923 at Randwick, New South Wales.[3] His body was transported to Brisbane and buried on 20th January at Brisbane General Cemetery, Toowong, Queensland.[4]
