Biography

George was born in the Townland of Gorteen, near the village of Garrison, Co. Fermanagh, Devenish Parish, Ireland in 1847. He traveled to America when he was just 13, in 1860. Family lore was the family went through Canada to get to Boston, so a "two boater," but repeated attempts to find passenger manifests have been unsuccessful. He married Ellen Johnston in 1877.

Ellen was also from the north of Ireland, possibly Co. Fermanagh as well. They had 11 children, 7 of whom lived to adulthood. At the time of his son Thomas' birth, George's occupation was a currier. George lived in Winchester, MA for the remainder of his life. He passed away in 1913 at the age of 66.
