Biography

John was the son of Major Andrew Calhoun Hamilton and Jane McGill born in the Ninety-Six District of South Carolina.

Ninety-Six District (29 Jul 1769 - 31 Dec 1799) was divided into six-counties in 1785. On 12 Mar 1785 Abbeville County was formed. Other counties formed from that division were: Edgefield, Laurens, Newberry, Spartanburg and Union. Abbeville City was formed on 20 Dec 1832.

He married Nancy Jane Thompson ca. 1789 in Abbeville County.

John was a Private for SC Militia during the Revolutionary War.
