Biography
Robert (Hamilton) Hamilton of Preston was born in Scotland.
Roert was the son of Robert Hamilton and Marion Johnstone.[1][2]
He received the honour of knighthood before 1504, as in that year he is referred to under the style of Sir Robert Hamilton of Preston, Kt. and was also so described as a witness to the decree of divorce between James, Lord Hamilton, lst Earl of Arran, and his wife Elizabeth Home. The last reference to him is found 14 Oct 1021 when he was witness to a decree of divorce between Robert Lyndesay and Janet Ros daughter of George Ros of Hanyng.
He married firstly, Margaret, daughter of Sir John Mowat of Stonehouse,
He married secondly,, before 1511, Marion, daughter of Sir David Crichton and relict of John Menzies of that ilk,.
He married thirdly, in 1516, Dame Helen, daughter of Sir James Shaw of Sauchie and tercer of four wealthy husbands.
He had issue:
- Robert, heir[2]
- John, M.A, Glasgow University 1508, m. Mary, daughter of John Carmichael of that Ilk.[2]
- James[2]
- David, of Langton and Olivestob, m. Margaret, natural daughter of George, 4th Lord Seton, d.s.p.[2]
- Margaret, m. Robert Dalzell of that Ilk.[3]
Robert died before 1522, [2]
