James Hamilton, 7th Earl of Abercorn was born on 22 March 1686.His parents were James Hamilton, 6th Earl of Abercorn and Hon. Elizabeth Reading.He married Anne Plumer, daughter of Colonel John Plumer, and Mary Hale, between 26 March 1711 and 28 April 1711 at Widford, Hertfordshire, England.
James Hamilton was styled as Lord Paisley between 1701 and 1734.He wrote the book Calculations and Tables on the Attractive Power of Lodestones, published 1729.
He succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Paisley, co. Renfrew on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Hamilton, of Donalong, co. Tyrone and of Nenagh, co. Tipperary on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 2nd Viscount Strabane on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 8th Lord Hamilton, Baron of Strabane, co. Tyrone on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 7th Earl of Abercorn on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Abercorn, co. Linlithgow on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Mountcastle, co. Tyrone on 28 November 1734.
He succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Paisley, Hamilton, Mountcashell and Kirkpatrick on 28 November 1734.
He was invested as a Privy Counsellor on 20 July 1738.
He was invested as a Privy Counsellor Ireland on 26 September 1739.
