Sarah Ellen Hamlet was born 10 February 1841 in Fulton, Indiana. She died 15 November 1905 in Fulton, Indiana at age 64.

Daughter of William Henry H. Hamlet (1813–1870) and Sarah F. Schooler (1818–1912).

Sarah Ellen Hamlet married Jeremiah D. Smith on 8 April 1866 in Fulton, Indiana.

Children:

2. Henry N. Smith (1869–1871).
3. Clara E. Smith )1871–1939).
4. Matilda Anna Smith (1873–1943).
5. Emma M. Smith (1884–Deceased).

Mrs. Jeremiah [D.] [Sarah Ellen HAMLETT] SMITH, who has been suffering with cancers for more than a year, and who was operated upon for relief, died Wednesday evening at about eleven o'clock. Sarah Ellen Hamlett, daughter of Henry and Sarah HAMLETT, was born February 10, 1841, near Talma. In April, 1866, she was united in marriage with Jerry D. Smith and they became parents of five children, four of whom are now living: Sanford [SMITH], of Peru, Mrs. Clara [SMITH] McVAY, Mrs. John F. [Matilda A. SMITH] HILL and Miss Emma SMITH. She also leaves two sisters -- Jane HAMLETT, of Idaho; and Mrs. Henry [H.] [Murtilla HAMLETT] WEIRICK, of this city, and a brother, Harry HAMLETT, also of Rochester. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Methodist church, and was a kind, good lady. The funeral will be held Sunday at 10 o'clock at the Methodist church, Rev. SWITZER officiating.
