Biography

William Hamlin was born on 24 Aug 1787 in Elizabethtown, Leeds, Upper Canada.

William married Margaret Manhard (1794 - ~1868) in 1810 in Brockville, Leeds and Grenville, Ontario, Canada. Their children were:

  1. Eliza (Hamlin) Olds (~1813 - 1890)
  2. Elizabeth Hamlin (1814 - 1887)
  3. John Hamlin (1827 - 1901)
  4. David Henry Hamlin (1836 - 1927).

William died on 6 Sep 1869 in Crawford, Ohio, United States aged 82.

William was mentioned on a memorial in Brown Cemetery, Crawford County, Ohio, United States with a death date of 6 September 1869.[1]

William Hamlin appears in his wife's Margaret Manhard's petition. In her petition she states that she is the "daughter of David Manhard of Elizabethtown a U.E. Loyalist." The document goes on to state that Margaret is of "full age and married to William Hamblin of Elizabethtown," and, "...daughter of David Manhard of Elizabethtown - who retained his loyalty during the late war - and that her husband retained his loyalty during the late war with the United States without _____ aiding or assisting? the Enemy and that the said William Hamblin did his duty in defense of the Province during the late war.[2]
