Biography

William was born in 1820. He was the son of William Hammock and Judith Clark. William had moved to Amite County, Mississippi and married by 1842. William married Nancy Faust on 20 January 1842. [1] By the 1850 census he and Nancy had children and his younger sister Elizabeth Jane Hammock was also living in his household. [2] William and Nancy are also enumerated in the 1860 census still in Amite County, Mississipppi. [3] The last census where William Hammock appears is the 1870. [4] He passed away in 1878.

Research Notes

William Hammock/Hammack and Judith Clark Hammock were both deceased by 1840. There is no evidence of why both William and Judith died; however, Cholera was a problem in 1832 through 1856 including Richmond and surrounding area. Their two known children, William Clark Hammock born 1820 and Elizabeth Jane Hammock born 1831 were taken in by the Matthew Neal family who then moved to Amite County, Mississippi taking the Hammock children with them. They were in Amite County by 1842 when William Clark Hammock married Nancy Faust. His sister, Elizabeth Jane was living in their household in the 1850 census. In 1852, Elizabeth Jane married David William Dunn.
