Biography

Hinsdale Hammond was born in Massachusetts.

Private Hinsdale Hammond served with 15th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Hinsdale, the eldest son and second child of Seth Hamant (alias Hammond) and Zillah Clark was born 14 October 1750 at Sturbridge, Massachusetts.^[1]

Hinsdale served as a Private in the Revolutionary War. He was in Lt. Col. Hull's 3rd Regiment from 10 July 1779 - 1 April 1780^[2]and again with Capt. Frothingham's Artillery on 5 July 1780,^[3]as well as Col. Bigelow's Regiment for six months beginning 5 July 1780.^[4]Hinsdale received a pension for his military service beginning 4 March 1836.^[5]

Hinsdale married Lucy Mason, the daughter of Capt. Abel and Lucy (Hobbs) Mason on 14 July 1785 at Sturbridge, Massachusetts.^[6]He and Lucy had ten children:

Hinsdale Hamant (alias Hammond) died 10 September 1841 in his 81st year at Campbell, Steuben, New York and is buried in the Meads Creek Cemetery at East Campbell, Steuben, New York.^[8]
