Hammond-2944 and Hammond-179 appear to represent the same person because: Esther was born to the senior Nathaniel and his wife Mary, not the junior, so Hammond-2944 is his sister not his daughter. Since there is already a profile that is sourced for his sister, merge the two Esther's will basically delete the profile that shouldn't exist.
Are we good to make the merge? The other profile is now empty and ready to be merged away. Please let me know if there are any issues. Thanks!
According to https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FCGH-WLG , my 5x great-grandmother Esther's birth date was 1690. However, the births of her children are more compatible with your date of 1684. Her first child, "Deacon" Samuel Prentice Jr. (my 4x great-grandfather), was born in 1702 according to Binney's History of the Prentice or Prentiss Family. She would have had to be 12 years old when he was born. Her other children were Joseph, Grace, Mary, Jonas, Esther, Eunice, Thomas, Oliver, Dorothy, and Lucy.

I have never heard of Christopher Avery. Perhaps she remarried after Samuel's death? According to Joe Dewald's update of Binney's book (http://www.prenticenet.com/people/america/thomas/), the last of her children was born five yeaers year before Samuel died.

The Vital Records of Newton, Massachusetts (Births: Page 85) do not cite an exact date for Esther's birth, however they do imply that she was born after her sister Hannah, "Hammond, Esther, ch. Nathaniel and Mary, _____[? b. after ch. b. Mar. 31, 1689]."
