The death date of 28 Feb 1737 has no sources. The Rochester Town Records has him registering his animal's earmark in 1745, so he is alive at least until then.

Thank you for pointing that out. I picked it up somewhere many years ago, and have now removed it.

Additionally, Archelaus is on the 1740 Mattapoiset Assessor's List page 367 of the book "Mattapoisett and Old Rochester;" page 369 has both he and his wife as members on 29 Jan 1772 of the 2nd Church of Rochester, Mattapoisett Precinct; page 381 has his son Judah being baptized 9 Oct 1753. Of course, a baptism doesn't mean a birth date, but Archelaus and his wife Elizabeth are not noted as being deceased.

Archelaus witnessed probate: see Abstracts of Bristol County, MA Probate Records, p 323. Inv of Est of Samuel Hicks of Dartmouth, dtd 12 Jan 1742/3, pres. by Barzillai Hammond, Exec. Pers. est. 130-18-6; no real est. Apprs: Nathaniel Church, Israel Hammond & Arcelus Hammond.

In the 1894 Hammond Genealogy by Roland Hammond, page 12, Archelaus is given an additional son Charles. Archelaus' brother also had a son Charles, so it's iffy as to who really married their cousin Eliphel, daughter of Jedediah Hammond. Charles' infant baptism 17 May 1752 date is recorded on page 380 in "Mattapoisett and Old Rochester."

The 16 year difference between son Archelaus born 1736 and son Charles 1752 with no other children in between is concerning.

Hammonmd-3 and Hammond-5525 appear to represent the same person because: Same name other than misspelling of Hammond. Same parents, same siblings. Nothing in conflict.

Is there a record showing this is how he spelled his last name at birth? It seems like an error has crept in somewhere.
