Nathan Hammond was a Maryland colonist.

Name

Nathan Hammond was born in Anne Arundel County around 1706. No birth record for him has been found, but he is proved to be the son of Major Charles Hammond and Hannah Howard and the grandson of Philip Howard.

Marriage & Family

Nathan married Anne Welch on 20 Jan 1731 in All Hallow's Parish.[1] The births of the following children are mentioned in Nathan's will:

Death

Nathan Hammond signed his will on 18 JUL 1761. He died leaving his wife pregnant and with 13 children to care for. An abstract of his will follows: Extrs: my wife, Ann, if she thinks proper, & my son Nathan Hammond.

  • To my son Rezin Hammond, Tevises Adventure, Hammonds Pursuit, & 5 sh. sterl.
  • To my son Charles Hammond, part of Chesnut Hill, where my quarter is settled, from Mansells Mill Br. westward.
  • To my son Phillip Hammond, the part of Chesnut Hill on the E side Mansells Mill Br.towards John Welch's & my Walnut Bottom.
  • To my son John Hammond, my part of Rich Neck, , Nelsons Walks, Miery Swamp, & Addition to Miery Swamp.
  • To my son Ormond Hammond, part of Locust Thickett.
  • To my son Aquila Hammond, the rest of Chesnut Hill, Tare Coat Thickett, & Browns Delight.
  • To my son Thomas Hammond, the part of Locust Thickett a back of Hinkles & John Plummores.
  • To my 3 daus. Ann, Hannah, & Ruth, equ. div., Friendship.

  • If my son Ormond or Thomas d. before age 21, the other is to have his part of the land, & if any of my 3 daus., Caroline, Mary, or Hamutell d. s. p. under age . . . My p. e. is to be div. among my youngest sons - Charles, Phillip, John, Ormond, Acquila, & Thomas - & all my daus. are to have an equ. share with the boys.
