Frederick Hammond was born on February 22, 1882 in Peniel, Greenfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio, United States. His parents were Aaron Hammond and Emily Harshbarger.

He married Lydia Howell on September 16, 1910. Together they had 11 children:

Obituary

Fred Aaron Hammond, son of Aaron and Emma Hashbarger Hammond, was born February 22, 1882 in Gallia County; departing this life on January 31, 1953 at the age of 70 years.

He was united in marriage to Lydia Howell on September 16, 1909. To this union ten children were born; one daughter, Betty Jane, died in infancy. Also, his parents, two brothers and one sister have preceded him in death.

Mr. Hammond was a retired coal miner. He had been a resident of Oak Hill for forty years. He had been failing in health for several years. Mr. Hammond was a good husband, father and a wonderful neighbor.

Mr. Hammond leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Lydia, five sons and four daughters - Gerald of Detroit, Denver of Oak Hill, Fred Jr. with the Air Corp in Alaska, Francis and Richard at home, Mrs. John Stewart of Wellston, Mrs. William Kuhner of Hamden, Miss Shirley Hammond of Columbus, and Mrs. Dwight Grove of Jackson. Also one brother, Tom Hammond of Gallia, Ohio and one sister, Mrs. Blanche Carpenter of Bowling Green, Ohio and eight grandchildren of whom he was very proud.

The face we loved is now laid low; His loving voice is still. The hands, so often toiled for us lies now in death's cold chill. We will often sit and think of him When we are all alone The memories are the only thing That grief can call its own.
