Biography
Evelyn Hammond was born in 1910 in Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia. She was the only daughter (with four brothers) of George Hammond and Clara Howlett. [1]
Evelyn married Leonard Bate in 1936 in Chatswood. [2] Both Len and Evelyn's brother, Stan, would serve as Sergeants in the 2/6th Field Regiment, 7th Division during the Second World War.
