Mary Ann Hammond was born in 1854 in Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom. She was the second child of George Hammond and Emily Offord. [1]
Mary married Henry Lipscombe in 1874 in Parramatta, New South Wales. [2] Henry's sister, Elizabeth, had married Mary Ann's brother, Abner a year earlier. Henry's father owned a brickworks at Enfield, New South Wales and was twice Mayor of Burwood. He also travelled a lot to various construction projects; one of which was Normanhurst Public School, no doubt the avenue through which Mary and Abner met Henry and Elizabeth. Mary and Henry had nine children.
She passed away in 1908 in Balmain, New South Wales. [3]
