Josiah was born 31 Jan 1724 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. He was the son of Josiah Hammond and Mary (Davis) Hammond.
Captain Josiah Hammond was a Lieut. of a Militia Co. and marched to Lexington on alarm in April 1775. In 1776-7. He was Captain 3rd Battalion, Ct. troops under the command of Generals Spencer and Wooster.
