Biography

Arthur was born in 1825. He was the son of Hugh Hammond and Hannah Harris.

UK Census Event Date 1841: Recorded in the household of Thomas and Elizabeth Vellacott in Bideford, Devon, England. Aged 15.

Arthur emigrated from England to the United States with his family on about 18 May 1850, possibly on the ship Empire State, departing from Liverpool. ^[1]

He and his two brothers Edward and William were naturalised on 2 March 1855 at Genesee, New York.^[2]

He married Jane (?).

They had at least three sons.

United States Census Event Date 1880: Living with his wife, three sons Arthur, Charles and Frederick in Geneva, Ontario, New York, United States. Aged 54.

Occupation: Nurseryman

United States Census Event Date 1910: Living with his wife, two adult sons Arthur and Frederick, and one Domestic help in Geneva Ward 3, Ontario, New York, United States. Aged 85.

He may have passed away in 1916.^[3]
