Biography

Micajah was born in 1738. He is the son of John Hampton and Mary Turner.

In an effort to retrace the life of Micajah Hampton, I am listing informat.ion I have on him in chronological order. These records are obtained from deeds, census and a few church records. The earliest record I have found of Micajah Hampton is from "Halifax County, Virginia Deed Books, 1759-1767, p. 298."

20 May 1762
Welcom William Hodges of Halifax Co. to Micajah Hampton of same for L 4.5, 330 acres on both sides of Bradley Cr. granted sd. Hodges 20 September 1755, beginning at a west corner of a new dividing line made by agreement between James Hodges and William Hobors (sic)... All houses, orchards, gardens.
Signed: Welcom W. Hodges.
Witness: Wm (+) Laws, John (+) Dean, Joseph Collins.
Recorded: 20 May 1762.

Micajah Hamoton was listed as a voter in 1764, 1765 and 1768. There was also a Jacob Hampton in the list of the poll in 1768. I would venture to say that Jacob was related to Micajah, possibly a brother or his father. At this writing, this relationship has not been proven.[1]

A deed from George Anderson to JOHN HAMPTON, SR. was by the said George acknowledged to be his act and deed and the same was ordered to be recorded. No doubt, some relation to Micajah--father? brother?).
