Biography

Ephraim was born in 1802. He is the son of John Hampton and Elizabeth Smith. He married his cousin, Lemenda K Hampton in Oldham County, Kentucky. Their first two children were born there. They had nine known children: David Mihill (Miles) Hampton 1829–1887, Sarah Elizabeth Hampton 1831–1864, Richard H. T. Hampton 1833–, John Green "Jack" Hampton 1835–1924, William E "Willie" Hampton 1837–, Joseph Allen Hampton 1839–1908, Martha Jane Hampton 1842–1931, Tandy Hooker Hampton 1844–1932, and James Washington Hampton 1846–1920.

After Lemenda's death in 1847, Ephraim married 7 Nov 1849, Lawrence County, Alabama, Lucinda Doss 1822–1895, the daughter of Ezekiel Doss and Frances Thurman. They had four children: Elige N Hampton 1851–1876, Lamender Penolia Hampton 1853–1935, George Washington Hampton 1858–1940, and Claiborn W. E. Hampton 1862–1868.

Ephraim died at home and was buried at Arbor Cemetery, also called Doss Cemetery, now located in the Bankhead National Forest, in Lawrence County, Alabama. The newer grave markers were placed there by descendants, and are not at the original graves. ^[1]
