VERDICT: The said August Hanck, now lying dead at 143 E. Monroe St, an said City of Chicago, County of Cook, State of Illinois, came to his death on the 14th day of November A.D. 1889 at 257 and 259 S. State St., from shock and injuries received by accidentally falling down elevator shaft at above number.
Description of Property Found: 25 cents in Money, 1 Pair Gloves, 1 Pocket Knife, 1 Pocket Book, and Some letters of no value.
August Hank, son of Conrad Hank of Spring Valley, was killed last Thursday morning at a furniture store on State street in Chicago, where he was employed. He was the first one at the store and it is supposed while operating and ascending in the elevator, his head was struck by some obstruction, killing him instantly. The body was found at the bottom of the elevator shaft where it had fallen. He was 19 years of age and a very likely young man. Funeral services at the Spring Valley Catholic church was very largely attended, among whom were ex-Alderman Henry Watercott and daughter Anna of Henry.
