Biography

James Hancock died (age 84) on 21 January 1908 in Peters Arm, Newfoundland.[1] His birthplace was listed as Botwoodville.

BIOGRAPHY: Feb 4, 1908 Free Press - (from Bev. Warford). Botwoodville. Mr. Jas. HANCOCK, a landmark of this place, died on Tuesday 21st.He came to Peter’s Arm over 40 years ago from Exploits, was one of first settlers here…all his children survive except Edward who was drownedabout 15 years ago by falling over the Botwoodville wharf when working as night watchmen for the company. Mrs. HANCOCK survives…an old lady of 82years and is very ______. The two have lived together 52 years. He was 84 at death.

The last will and testament of James Handcock of Botwoodville. I James Handcock do give, devise and bequeath to my wife Martha Handcock myhouse, furniture and all my personal affects together with one third ofthe land owned by me for her sole use during her natural life. I further devise that at the death of my wife Martha Handcock this my bequest shallpass to my grandson Archibald Hancock, his heirs and successors for ever.I give devise and bequeath to my sons Joseph Handcock and HenryHandcock, the remaining two thirds of my estate, to be divided equallybetween them at my death, for the benefit of them, their heirs andsuccessors for ever.
