George Tyley Hancock was born about 1844 at Westbury on Trym, Gloucestershire, England, the son of Mary (Powell) Hancock and Benjamin Tyler Hancock.

He was christened on 13 January 1846 at Westbury on Trym, Redland.^[1]

He married Florence Webster in 1876 in Victoria, Australia.^[2] Their children were:^{[citation needed]}

• Benjamin Tyley Hancock (1877–1950)
• Norman Edward Hancock (1888–1964)
• Anne Courteney Hancock (1889–?)

George died in 1918 in Meeniyan, Victoria, Australia, aged 74 years.^[3]
