Biography

Flag of Northamptonshire (adopted 2014)
Ann (Hancock) Ariss was born in Northamptonshire, England.

Sarah Ann Hancock was born in 1851 in Chacombe, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom and baptised there on 16 Jan 1852. Her parents were John Hancock and Phebe Heritage. [1][2][3]

Sarah Ann Hancock (spinster age 22) of Guy's Cliffe Wharf, Emscote, the daughter of John Hancock (labourer) was married to John Charles Ariss (bachelor age 21, a labourer) of Bourton-on-Dunsmore, the son of Charles Ariss (labourer) on 18th August 1874 at All Saints Church, Emscote, Warwickshire. Hanah Maria Hancock and Thomas Hancock were witnesses. Charles Ariss made his mark and his wife signed. Charles T Biscoe, Curate, conducted the marriage. [4][5]

John Charles Ariss and Sarah Ann Hancock had a son, Charles Herbert Ariss born on 31st January 1877 in Blenheim, Oxford, Ontario, Canada and registered there on 3rd February 1877. [6]

An online tree says that Sarah and John Ariss emigrated to Ontario, Canada. The surname became Harris around 1878. I provide the link to that tree for research purposes. [7]

Sarah Hancock Harris died in 1943 and was buried at Hillview Cemetery, Woodstock, Oxford County Municipality, Ontario, Canada. [8]

Research Note

A Sarah Ann Hancock (18, single) was a servant to William Gazey (spirit merchant) and family in Banbury in 1871. NOTE: There were two other Sarah Ann Hancocks born in 1852 in Banbury district, at least one was baptised in Chacombe so I'm not 100% sure I have the right person in this source. This may be the daughter of Richard and Esther. [9]

The Sarah Hancock who died in 1856 was 92 yrs old, so not the same person.
