Jeremiah T. Hancock was born in 1842 in Irwin, Georgia, probably a twin brother of sister Martha also born 1842. He also had an older brother, Shadrach Lee Hancock, born 1826.

Jeremiah T. Hancock was named for an Uncle Jeremiah Hancock, with whom he served in the same regiment in the US Civil War.

Jeremiah T. Hancock 's uncle Jeremiah Hancock, and his father Henry William Hancock are listed on the 1840 United States Federal Census for Colquitt County, Georgia. Names of wives and children are not included in this early census.

Jeremiah T. Hancock lost his mother Mary Fulgrum/Fulgham when he was 8 years old

Jeremiah T. Hancock enlisted in the Georgia infantry during the United States Civil War and became Third Corporal Jeremiah T Hancock, Company H, 50th Regiment, Georgia Infantry. This regiment was known as the "Colquitt Marksmen" and they were from Colquitt County, Georgia.

Jeremiah T. Hancock was killed in action in the Battle of Boonsboro Gap/South Mountain on September 14, 1862 and temporarily buried at the battle site.

Jeremiah T. Hancock was later reburied in 1874 at Washington Confederate Cemetery, Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, USA in an unmarked grave with other unidentified soldiers from the same battle.

NOTE: Private Harrison G. Hancock from Company H was also killed in this battle. He is related to Corp. Jeremiah T. Hancock. Corp. Jeremiah T. Hancock was probably an officer under whom Harrison G. Hancock served. Three other Hancock's were also in the same Company H and are all somehow related.
