GRAVES HANCOCK was born about 1793 likely in Kentucky. He was one of the younger sons of John Hancock and Nancy Ann Graves. John and Nancy were from Louisa County, Virginia and removed to Woodford County, Kentucky & Franklin County, Kentucky and finally to Butler County, Ohio taking their younger children with them while older children remained in Kentucky.

This Graves Hancock of Butler County, Ohio is not his eldest brother, Thomas "Graves" Hancock, who was also known as "Graves Hancock". Thomas "Graves" Hancock remained in Kentucky where he married, and when his parents and younger siblings (one being the younger single brother, Graves Hancock) removed to Butler County, Ohio. Thomas "Graves" Hancock and wife remained in Kentucky.

Thomas "Graves" Hancock remained in Franklin County, Kentucky with his brother, Bartlett Henry "Harry" Hancock and their sister, Susannah (née Hancock) Crutcher, after their parents and siblings (John A., Joel, Nancy Ann, Graves, Isabella, James Bartlett, Henry Graves, and William Thomas) moved to Butler County, Ohio.

Graves Hancock of Butler County, Ohio married say 1810 in likely Butler County, Ohio to Elizabeth (née unknown). (No marriage record has been found.) This Graves Hancock who married Elizabeth (née unknown), is not to be confused with his eldest brother Thomas "Graves" Hancock who married (2) Elizabeth Cox and lived in Franklin County, Kentucky.
