Biography

David Neil Haney was born December 27, 1898 in Nichols, Muscatine County, Iowa. He was the son of David Nathaniel Haney and Martha Jane Bosley.

In June, 1900, David Neil Haney was living with his family in a rented house in Nichols, Muscatine County, Iowa. His father was employed as a railroad bridge foreman. Enumerated in the household were:

On January 29, 1914, his father David Haney purchased a house at 702 E. 7th Street, Washington, Washington County, Iowa. In the 1910 U.S. Census, the family was living in the Washington house.

In September, 1918, David Neil Haney registered for the draft. He was living at home in Washington, Iowa, employed as a B.B. carpenter at Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific railroad. He was of medium height, medium build with blue eyes & light hair.

In January, 1920 David Neil Haney was rooming in a house at 7310 Gale Avenue in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, working as a clerk at the Y.M.C.A.

David Neil Haney's father, David Haney died March 8, 1928. In July, 1828, His mother Martha Bosley moved to Topeka, Kansas with her youngest son, Phillip Kent Haney who was in a T.B. sanitarium there. His brother, Frank Earl Haney was already living there, employed as a Signal Supervisor for the railroad.

In 1929, David Neil Haney was living in Topeka at 505 S.W. Taylor, Topeka, Kansas with this mother Martha Bosley, his brother Kenneth Bosley Haney, and nephew David Wells Haney. He was employed as a salesman at Sears-Roebuck Company.

In April, 1930, David Neil Haney was the proprietor of a grocery store, living with his family in a rented house at 505 Taylor Street, Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas. They owned a radio set. Martha Jane Bosley Haney's son, Phillip Kent Haney, was resident in the tuberculosis sanitarium in Topeka, but was not enumerated there. Enumerated in the household were:

On October 29, 1930, David Neil Haney married Evelyn Gladys Goldsmith in Hays, Ellis County, Kansas. She was the daughter of James Alfonso Goldsmith & Elnora Arabelle Morehead Goldsmith.

In April, 1940, David Neil Haney & Evelyn Gladys Goldsmith were living in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas, where he was employed as a salesman of tea & coffee at Grand Union. Enumerated in the household were:

A son, David Kent Haney was born April 18, 1940 in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas.

David Neil Haney registered for the draft on April 27, 1942. He was living in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. He was 6' tall, 142 lbs., blue eyes, blonde hair, light complexion. I don't know why he was in Arizona, but the registration includes the place of birth (Nichols, Muscatine County, Iowa) and wife's name as Gladys.

In 1954, David Neil Haney & Evelyn Gladys Goldsmith were back in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, where David Neil Haney was employed as a salesman at Jayhawk Equipment. from which he would retire in 1969.

David Neil Haney died August 5, 1982 in Admire, Kansas. He was 83 years old. He is buried at Admire Cemetery in Admire, Lyon County, Kansas.
