James was born about 1760 in Greene County, Virginia according to the Pension Roll of 1835. On 1 May 1784 in Greene, he married Nancy Peatross. They are believed to have had 6-7 children. They lived in Greene throughout their lives. It is here he passed away on 7 May 1833.
James shows up as having served in the military on the "U.S. Pensioners, 1818-1872" rolls. There is a note stated "Died 7th May 1833 and paid in the ?? Apr 1833" on his row (see image).
