Biography

William was born in 1476. He was the son of John Hanford and Margaret Savage.

4 Aug 1487 - William's wardship and marriage were granted to his step-father Sir Edmund Trafford by his grandfather Sir John Savage.^[1]

29 Sep 1508 - William, by charter, enfoeffed Sir Edmond Trafford [and others] all lands and advowson of the church of Assheton to hold and to carry out his will whereby Sibyl his wife and Margaret his daughter are to be governed by the counsel of the said feofees and their heirs, and the said Margaret was to be married by them^[1]

William was slain at Brankston Moor during the Battle of Flodden in 1513.

1515 - Sibyl, the wife [widow] of William Hondford enters a suit against Edmund Trafford....for dower of the manors of Hondford and Assheton [super Mersey].....^[1]

13 Jan 1515/6 - Inquisition Post Mortem: And the said William Honford died at Brankstonmore on the 9th September, 5 Henry VIII [1513], in the war against the Scotch king, and was there slain, and that Lady Margaret Stanley, the wife of sir John Stanley, Knt, is the daughter and next heir and was 12 years old on the feast of St James the Apostle [July 25] last past, and the said Margaret had been married by the feoffees aboveaid.^[1]
