He had five sons and two daughters with Mary Constance Hunt. He died on February 3, 1993, in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, at the age of 70, and was buried in Hudson, New Hampshire, USA.

Russell Francis Hanks, 70, of Spruce Manor Nursing Home, Springfield, Mass., formerly of Ashburnham, died Wednesday, February 3, 1993 in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Northampton, after a long illness. His wife, Mary Constance "Connie" (Hunt) Hanks, died in 1986. He leaves five sons, Russell Francis Hanks, Jr. of Northampton, Mark S. Hanks of Clearwater, Fla., Martin V. Hanks of Maui, Hawaii, Scott M. Hanks of Nashua, NH., and Dean George Hanks of Amherst; two daughters, Kristine A. Parish of Syracuse, NY. and Nancy A. Bachand of Amherst; a sister, Mae LeBlanc of Fitchburg; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Fitchburg, Mass., a son of George Fabian and Delima (Girouard) Hanks. He lived many years in Ashburnham. He graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham. Mr. Hanks was director of food services at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, for many years before he retired. He was previously manager of the Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster for many years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater. He was a former member of St Denis Church in Ashburnham. His funeral will be held Monday, with a Mass in Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua, NH. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Hudson, NH. (Worcester Telegram, Sat. Feb.6, 1993
