Moses Hanks Sr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A051138.
Moses Hanks Sr. was a Tennessean.

Moses Hanks Sr. was born on the 15th of July, 1746, in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia, British Colonial America. Moses was a son of Luke Hanks Sr. and Elizabeth Glascock.

He married Agatha Dodson in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1767.[1] After the Revolutionary War he took the oath of allegiance to the USA in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1777.[2][3] Later he had a farm in Hat Creek, Campbell, County, Virginia, near where his brother, Abraham, had moved his family in 1783.

The Hanks, Dodson, Fitzgerald, and Hill families lived very near each other in the southern mountains of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and intermarried. They migrated together in the 1790s to Maury County, Tennessee. But by 1807 most of Moses Hanks' children had gone on to Texas.

Thomas Hill was a preacher, and three of his children married three of Moses' children. Three other of Moses' children married Dodsons. Maury County, Tennessee contains the marriage records of that year and records the marriage of his youngest son Elijah's niece, Frances, to James Fitzgerald, thus establishing the Hanks family there in middle Tennessee.[citation needed]

Moses Hanks died on the 19th August 1831, in Maury County, Tennessee and was buried at the Old Knob Creek Cemetery in Maury County, Tennessee.[4]
